Aside: if you happen to have a band, you might take solace from Joe Strummer. In Let’s Rock Again he says playing for one person is the hardest thing you can do as a band. Playing for no one isn’t hard. You can leave if you want or just pretend it’s rehearsal. But playing for one person and giving that one person as much energy and show as you would for a packed house, that’s the most difficult thing in the world.  And if you can do that, then you can do anything.
